Alexandra P. Gelbard is a sociologist and visual ethnographer, specializing in African Diaspora Studies, community formation, religion, and cultural production. With over 20 years of experience conducting research in Cuba, she is currently working on her first book manuscript centered on the African presence in Santiago de Cuba, cabildos de nación, street processionals, and the globalization of culture. Originally from Washington, D.C., she is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies at Florida International University in Miami.
